Frequently Asked Questions

A road mobility scooter is large scooter that is suitable for more substantial journeys, ideal for those looking to travel longer distances. Most road scooters have a higher top speed, battery life, and range; however, this comes at the expense of portability. Road scooters are categorised as ‘Class 3 vehicles’, which means they can be ridden at up to 8mph on roads and 4mph on pavements. They are also required by law to share many of the same safety features as a car, such as an efficient braking system, front and rear lights and reflectors, a horn, a rear-view mirror, and direction indicators.

Road scooters are the ideal choice if you’re looking at making longer journeys and are comfortable riding on the road. Some people choose to replace their car with a road scooter, as the road scooter allows access to many of the same places their car would’ve taken them, provided they are within range. Road mobility scooters tend to have large batteries, padded seats, and bigger wheels. This means they can provide comfort on longer trips. Certain models are also completely covered, offering protection from the elements and ‘all-weather’ comfort.

All the usual parking restrictions apply to road mobility scooters the same as they apply to cars. In addition, you should not leave your scooter on a footpath or pedestrian area if it’s likely get in the way of other people, including wheelchair uses and people pushing pushchairs.

Of all the scooters that we offer, our road mobility scooters are the best suited to rain and bad weather. However, please check on a scooter-by-scooter basis to see its capabilities and limitations in this regard.

No. All our road scooters are significantly heavier and larger than our boot and folding scooters, which are designed especially for travel, transport, and storage. If you are looking for a portable option, a road scooter will not be suitable.
